The first section of this book was nice, though most of that information could be in any connection based parenting book. The “rituals†which were the reason I purchased the book were disappointing. They’re really more like games than rituals and most didn’t really lend themselves to repetition at the same time everyday or at specific times as you would an actual ritual. If you’re looking for regular things to do with your kid(s) everyday to foster connection such as for good morning or before bed as I was, I would not recommend this book. If you have trouble relating to your kids at all, or finding ways to just play with them, this book might give you some ideas.
I like reading this book to give me ideas on how to connect with my 2 year old. A lot of the ideas are too old for him, but can be modified to fit his age (although they don't tell you how).

I love all the examples in this book. Only the first 1/3 is the how/why and the last 2/3 of the book is all examples of I love you rituals and how to do them! It's fantastic.
So far, I have read the intro to this book and it is amazing. I recently took a class in which the instructor referred to this book in working with students with visual impairments and autism. My professor emphasized the relationship development aspect of communication. This book gives great ideas for fostering relationships with all children (I learned about some of them from my professor). One thing I really got out of this is that when we bring ritual into our interactions with our loved ones, we show them that we have time for them and that we want to be "in the moment" with them. A very important message for everyone, and especially in this day and age.
Excellent book. Specific practical age-appropriate ways, little routines, to convey how significant & valued are those young ones in our life. Can be adapted & applied to any age. Clearly written, & obviously by someone who knows & has experienced her subject material.
Love this - have used it as a preschool classroom teacher and now use it as a speech therapist when I have kiddos that have a hard time with establishing routines, or to share with parents who are having a hard time establishing bonding routines.
Dr Becky Bailey always hits top marks for me. As a teacher I adapt some of these rituals for the classroom. The children play and sing these activities together, sometimes in pairs. This is a must for every parent with young children. Also the conscious discipline website it has lots of great ideas, free resources, other book suggestions, and videos to support you and your child.
