It's not the best type of book I've seen of this subject, but it's not the worst. It's in color, has various costumes throughout the ages. It's a bit light on content compared to other books that deal with historical fashion. I'm sure this would be good for teaching kids, it's picture-heavy and good for thumbing through for the artwork.I do feel that someone who is deeply into the subject of historical fashion, or needs a lot of examples from specific areas and periods, (Like costume designers, game designers, etc) may find this book a bit lacking.
This is a nice set of fashion illustrations mainly regarding the renaissance and late medieval periods, based on Camille Bonnard's compilation. All the ilustrations are historically correct and they are mostly (but not all) Italians. It contains 120 plates with no text or information appart from a descriptive caption. Don't expect to find any historical explanation in this book, since that is not its intention. Although it is in no way the ultimate costume reference guide, it still remains as a fine aditional source for historical fashion that would probably be useful for any astist interested in that period.When I bought this book I was able to get it "used" for a very low price.
I like picture books. When I am trying to come up with a costume, having many pictures to look at helps more than text does.
Only shows historic plates from contemporary art. There are no illustrations showing cut and construction. Do not recommend for pattern making.
